Facilities Management team

School maintenance and compliance is managed by the Facilities Management (FM) team.
The FM team organises compliance checks in schools and manages the contract with our FM supplier Skanska UK. If you have a property issue it is recommended that this is reported through the Skanska Helpdesk. Please ensure that you communicate the full details of the issue, and the urgency. This will determine the response and call out duration. It will also be notified to the correct team within KCC. The process is described in the Minor Works process for schools (PDF, 215.5 KB).
The Skanska Helpdesk can be contacted as follows:
Email: kenthelpdesk@skanska.co.uk
Phone: 0800 901 2464
The FM team also manage the compliance check and visits to schools. The list of services provided and those which are the school’s responsibility are described in the building maintenance checklist document (XLSX, 21.8 KB).
If you are concerned about a Health and Safety issue, more information can be found on the HR information and guidance for Kent maintained schools page.
Capital Projects team

Project delivery in schools is managed by the Capital Projects team, there are three areas of support.
Premises Development Officers
Premises Development officers are there to support schools as a point of contact and to provide advice and direction on creating Premise Development and basic Maintenance Plans. A fuller description of the service and contact details can be found in the Premise Development Officer document (PDF, 78.4 KB).
Major Projects
The Major Projects team deal with the construction of new schools, school expansions and special programmes. If you have an enquiry this is best directed to your Assistant Director of Education in the first instance.
Minor works
The Minor Works team deal with all projects related to maintenance and condition that are above the school threshold. Referrals to the Minor Works team are described in the Minor Works process map (PDF, 215.5 KB).
Further support and guidance

Contractor competency
If the cost of the property issue is below the school threshold or the school is managing its own works, it is important that you gain reassurance on the competency of the contractor being employed. The contactor competence document (PDF, 262.5 KB) lists the possible types of work and provide a list of the accreditations that you should request.
Fire doors and fire compliance
There has been an emerging issue relating to fire doors. Fire Safety is the responsibility of the school to maintain. There is some confusion regarding how doors are classified as fire doors and the responsibility to check and maintain fire doors. We have therefore produced the fire door guidance document (PDF, 225.4 KB) to support schools in meeting their obligations.
