KGA is an independent association of governors with no political affiliation seeking to:

  • Broaden participation in school governance and provide a democratic forum for the exchange of ideas whilst encouraging co-operation between Governing Bodies, Schools and Districts
  • Act collectively to promote and protect the integrity of education in the county
  • Provide a formal channel of communication with the LA and a mechanism for consultation and negotiation on educational matters, and, to further good relationships with the LA and other relevant bodies
  • Maintain links with Kent Governor Services
  • Further governors' interests regionally and nationally through membership of the National Governors Association (NGA)
  • Provide a coherent voice for Kent Governors in making representations to central government on matters of common concern.

Membership

Membership is open to all governing bodies of Kent Schools (including academies). Individual governors will be deemed members by virtue of being members of a governing body in the Association.

Executive committee

The KGA Executive meets three times a year. Its members represent each of the KCC districts and they attend the District Governor Briefings to gather concerns, opinions and queries and feedback information from the KGA. The Executive meetings are regularly attended by Governor Support and other KCC officers, which enables members to influence decision making with regard to the services provided for both our governing bodies and schools.

If you are interested in becoming an executive member please contact the KGA Chair, Janice Brooke at janicebrooked28@btinternet.com.

County assemblies

County Assemblies are held three times a year and are regularly attended by county councillors, Cabinet members and senior KCC officers. They enable governors to hear about local policy and procedure directly from those responsible for it, to ask questions and offer opinions. Assemblies add to governor training by providing up-to-date information and the opportunity for governors to see their own school governance in a county context. A forum enables governors to share information, concerns and questions. All members of KGA are welcome to attend, free of charge, but we ask that you book in using CPD Online so that sufficient refreshments can be provided.
