Supporting schools to deliver free breakfast clubs
18 June 2026
The DfE want to hear from schools who are not yet on the programme.
The Secretary of State wrote to schools on 3 June regarding free breakfast clubs. Over 1,250 schools are delivering and seeing the benefits of free breakfast clubs up and down the country. Learnings from these schools have shaped a suite of resources and case studies but the DfE also want to hear from schools who are not yet on the programme.
DfE want all children and families to have access to these benefits and that is why following the passage of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act (2026), all schools with primary-age pupils will be required to offer a free breakfast club. DfE will help new groups of schools get up and running in stages throughout 2027 and 2028, and will let you know when applications are open.
DfE recently sent this short survey to schools that are not yet part of the programme. If your school has not already done so, please do complete the DfE’s survey.
