Safer Internet Day Get ready for SID 2016!
11 December 2015
A reminder for schools and settings about Safer Internet day, 9th February 2016.
Safer Internet Day 2016 will take place on the 9th February 2016 with the theme "Play your part for a better internet"
Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. Safer Internet Day offers the opportunity for schools, settings and professionals to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role that we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet.
Ideas for schools and settings can include:
- Focus on online safety in assemblies, lessons or form time using the resources in the Safer Internet Day education packs (coming soon!)
- Run an online safety competition in your school or setting
- Get creative and encourage children to produce an app, game or video to celebrate being safer online
- Encourage young people to take the lead by educating their peers or running a campaign in school or community groups
- Reach out to parents and carers using the Safer Internet Day parent pack (coming soon!)
- Help spread the word by promoting the day on social media, through your website or newsletter, or by contacting local press to let them know what you are doing for the day
