REMINDER: Literacy skills open more doors for young people says Kent Literacy Awards ambassador

“Literacy is the absolute key” for job prospects and well-being later in life according to a legal firm encouraging Kent Literacy Awards nominations in 2016.

Mark Dewey, senior partner of Hallett and Co solicitors, Ashford, said: “Ninetysix percent of businesses are searching for good literacy skills in future employees; it is the lifeblood of our profession.”

He added: “Every lawyer must be able to read, write, listen and comprehend; skills essential to our work, and indeed everyday interaction.”

The awards are organised by the KM Charity Team, and looking for flagship literacy initiatives in Kent’s schools making a real difference in the classroom.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the charity, said: “Literacy is at the very heart of our work, and something we strive to celebrate and congratulate regularly. I cannot think of a better event for this than the Kent Literacy Awards. We hope many people take the time to submit a nomination.”

Nominations are now open and accepted from fellow teaching and support staff, parents, pupils and management across primary and secondary schools.

The ambassadors from Hallett and Co will join the judging panel at the awards, which take place at Sittingbourne’s Hempstead House in June.

Submit one nomination or more using the simple online form at www.kentliteracyawards.co.uk before the April 29 deadline.
