Racial Incidents in Schools Survey 2022-23

The survey is now online to record incidents from the last academic year.

We are asking schools to complete the survey with any incidents that occurred in the 2022-23 academic year. The online survey replaces the old paper version and asks for the same information; no additional data is being requested.

The survey can be found on Kelsi.

If you have been recording your incidents on the monthly "as it happens" survey throughout the year, then you do not need to complete this survey as well.

We would encourage all schools to continue to record and report any racial incidents that occur - as you know, the Ofsted framework includes a written judgement about whether or not the arrangements for safeguarding children and learners are effective. This will include safeguarding action to protect children from prejudice based bullying and racist abuse.

Aggregated racial incidents data is also requested under the Freedom of Information Act - we have had requests regarding schools who did not return the survey in particular years so it is important for all schools to submit a return, even if a nil return.

For those of you who did not have any racial incidents in 2022-23, please go to the survey and enter your DfE number and school name and select the “No” button for the question: “Have there been any incidents in your school between 01/09/2022 and 31/08/2023?”

There is a Print button on the survey that will print all the data you have entered - it will also print confirmation of a nil return. You will need to have enabled "pop ups" on your PC for the print option to work.

If you have any queries about the data collection of racial and other incidents of bullying please email MIEducation&WiderEH@kent.gov.uk.

We would be grateful if you could complete the online survey (even if a nil return) by Friday 20 October 2023. If you are a new sponsored academy or have recently amalgamated we would appreciate it if you could make the return using the previous school’s details.

Thank you for your cooperation.
