Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Awareness Day – Friday 17 October 2025
15 September 2025
Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) affects approximately 1 in 14 children, yet it remains widely unknown.
DLD Awareness Day is an opportunity for your schools to help shine a light on this hidden but impactful condition.
This year’s theme is “You Can’t See DLD”, highlighting how DLD is often invisible but can significantly affect learning, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing.
How your school can get involved:
- Wear purple and yellow - the official campaign colours - and encourage pupils to do the same.
- Host a language-themed assembly or classroom discussion to explore what DLD is and how it affects communication.
- Create posters or displays around the school to promote understanding.
- Share stories or videos that highlight the experiences of children with DLD.
- Encourage pupils to think about language - what it is, how we use it and why it matters.
- Find loads of ideas and resources on the Raising Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder website
