Developing your teaching workforce for the year ahead

Practical and cost‑effective recruitment options that can help you build your teaching workforce.

As we approach the new school year, a time when many teachers consider moving on to their next role, I wanted to make you aware of some practical and cost‑effective recruitment options that can help you build your teaching workforce. We support schools to develop their own teachers through the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship and Fee‑Funded Initial Teacher Training, delivered in partnership with Best Practice Network, one of the UK’s leading providers of teacher development.

1. Train your own teachers through the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship

A cost‑effective way to upskill existing staff such as TAs or unqualified teachers who already hold a degree.

  • Staff gain QTS and a Level 6 Teacher Apprenticeship
  • No upfront training costs (funded via your Apprenticeship Levy)
  • Structured, high‑quality ITT curriculum
  • Helps fill vacancies and build long‑term capacity
  • Schools can receive up to £1,072 for mentor training.

Need help finding candidates? - if recruitment proves to be difficult, we can also support you in identifying and recruiting suitable applicants for apprenticeship roles.

2. Fee‑Funded ITT placements

A great way to support future teachers while gaining additional classroom capacity at no cost.

  • Extra classroom capacity at no cost
  • A pipeline of future teachers who already know your school
  • Development opportunities for existing staff through mentoring.
