The Balanced System® for Speech, Language and Communication

Kent has adopted the Balanced System® framework to support children and young people’s speech, language and communication.

Most schools now have access to an NHS link speech and language therapist who can help them evaluate and develop their provision, as well as support individual children and young people where appropriate.

Please note: Secondary schools in Swale covered by MCH that do not yet have a link therapist can speak to their link specialist teacher for support.

Free introductory session

We are holding an online session in September for schools that are new to the Balanced System or would like support to use its self-evaluation tools. The sessions are primarily for SENCos or other staff leading speech, language and communication provision.

You will learn how to use the free tools to prepare for a productive meeting with your link therapist and identify priorities for developing your school’s provision. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

Next steps

Schools wishing to go further can work towards a nationally recognised award for their speech, language and communication provision through the Balanced System® Scheme for Schools and Settings accreditation. Contact slcn@kent.gov.uk if you would like to register for our next cohort.
