Sport England's Active Lives: Children and Young People Survey

You may be contacted soon regarding Sport England's Active Lives Survey.

A new survey giving detailed and reliable insight into the physical activity habits of children and young people has been developed by Sport England. The Active Lives: Children and Young People survey is being supported by Kent Sport and will give Sport England, schools and those working with children aged 5-16 key information on children's physical activity.

Why take part?

  • Three times each year schools are randomly selected (by IPSOS Mori) to take part in the survey. Your school will be contacted if it has been selected.
  • Every school which takes completes at least 30 surveys will receive a report on their student’s levels of activity, which can be used as evidence for Ofsted, please note all data is anonymous.
  • Schools will receive £100 for completing the surveys providing at least 30 surveys are submitted.
  • The data from every school will be consolidated and used to inform future funding decisions on opportunities for children and young people to take part in sport and physical activity.

What does taking part in the survey involve?

  • The school will be told which three year groups are involved and how to randomly select one mixed ability class from each year group to complete the survey.
  • Surveys are completed online within the school and take approximately 20 minutes.
  • Schools can see the survey prior to asking the students to complete it.
  • One teacher should complete a separate survey on behalf of the school.
  • Template letters and information sheets are provided for schools to use.
  • When year one or two classes are selected, parents have the opportunity to complete an online survey. The school receives an extra £50 payment for every five parents taking part.
