Balanced System® tools for schools

School SENCOs or other senior leaders can register their school to access free Balanced System® tools. These tools will support you to better understand your provision for SLCN and identify next steps to improve it.

  • Stars, bugs and moon - to capture what of ‘star quality’ in your provision, bugs in the system and your aspiration
  • Baseline evaluation - to give a strategic system wide view of provision
  • Detailed evaluation - rating your school across the strands and levels of the Balanced System® Framework to give a more detailed view of provision.
  • Mapping provision - to record your provision across the five strands and three levels of the Balanced System®
  • Integrated solution tool - good practice model of provision and evidence.

If your school has an allocated link speech and language therapist, discuss your mapping provision with them, and use the information from the evaluation tools to develop an action plan for your school for the coming terms. This should summarise what needs to happen, who is responsible and the expected impact.
