#So.Me study
19 August 2025
A new measure of social media experience for young people aged 11 to 15.
The #So.Me team at the University of Manchester are in the final stages of creating a new measure (questionnaire) of social media experience for young people aged 11 to 15. The self-report questionnaire has been developed with young people, and will be used to identify experiences on social media that may be impacting their mental health and wellbeing. Mainstream secondary schools are being invited to test the measure with their pupils from September to December 2025. Taking part involves testing the measure with all pupils in a minimum of two year groups from years 7 to 10, on a computer or tablet, during the school day (e.g. during PSHE). Schools will be provided with all the resources they need to do this.
To recognise the effort and resource required to participate, schools will receive:
- Supply teacher pay for half-day to cover staff time (£150)
- £50 Amazon e-voucher for lead teacher
- A report detailing what we have learnt overall including a bespoke section for their school
- Follow-up webinar to discuss the data and what this means for pupils and schools.
If your school is interested in taking part, please complete the expression of interest form
Please note there is no action or formal commitment required of schools before the summer holidays - full study communication and sign-up will kick-off at the start of the Autumn term.
Please input ‘KCC’ in the same box as school postcode when registering interest.
Please note, schools that took part in our pilot study can only take part with a new set of pupils (i.e. your new year 7 cohort or any year groups who did not complete the pilot questionnaire).
