RAISEonline Update
21 September 2015
Question level analyses for Year 7 pupils in September 2015
For the first time all Key Stage 2 tests were electronically marked in 2015.
These data are being made available to secondary schools to better support transition by giving secondary teachers detailed information about the Year 6 tests taken by pupils at the end of primary school.
The data are available from the NCA Tools website and require secondary schools to enter the UPNs for their new Year 7 pupils.
Note that all through schools will find that they only need to enter the UPNs for pupils new to the school, as all their 2015 Year 6 pupils have had their data automatically uploaded already.
RAISEonline provides the functionality to analyse this question level data. It can provide individual pupil reports as well as cohort analyses. A guidance document is available within the RAISEonline library under the Question level analysis folder at the link below demonstrating how to access the data from NCA tools and upload the data RAISEonline.
The tests taken by pupils at the end of Key Stage 2 are:
- Level 3 to 5 Reading (optional level 6 test)
- Level 3 to 5 Mathematics tests (optional level 6 tests)
- Level 3 to 5 English grammar punctuation and spelling tests (optional level 6 tests).
The data being made available will include the response made by each pupil to each question/item in each test. It is important to keep in mind that these assessments are a snapshot of a pupil's attainment and although they will demonstrate a pupil's successes/areas for development they should also be considered alongside teacher assessments.
The data has been made available in two formats.
- A common transfer file (CTF) containing pupil information (the school will provide the UPN's of current Year 7)
- An excel file containing data for all of the exam papers taken by the pupils as provided by the school in a format suitable for importing into RAISEonline.
Note that an additional set of excel formatted files containing raw data for general use.
Schools will need to decide if it would be useful for their RAISEonline administrator to grant the relevant heads of subject, heads of year and teachers access to the system so that they can directly explore the Key Stage 2 test performance of their pupils.
