This exciting and important conference, for primary, secondary and special schools, will feature the launch of a Leadership Strategy for Kent, as the culmination of a key review carried out by CfBT, and led by Maggie Farrar. The launch will include an address by Steve Munby, the Chief Executive of CfBT. After gaining experience as a teacher and lecturer, he held various senior roles in education departments in the north-west of England, before becoming a director of education and lifelong learning in Merseyside. He rose to national prominence in 2005, when he was appointed Chief Executive of the National College for School Leadership, a post which he held until 2012, achieving impressive success.

A further speaker will be Professor Sir Tim Brighouse. After teaching in Derbyshire and South Wales, and holding various administrative posts, he became Deputy in the ILEA. He went on to spend ten years as Chief Education Officer for Oxfordshire, four as a Professor at Keele University, and ten as CEO for Birmingham, where his work was described by OfSTED as 'an example to all others of what can be done, even in the most demanding environment'. He was Commissioner for London Schools from 2002 – 2007, and led the London Challenge, with extraordinary effects. In 2013, Steve Munby commented: 'London schools are the success story of the last decade… we need to know what happened and what – if anything – can be shared by the rest of the country.' Sir Tim was knighted in 2009.

A third speaker is Robert Hill, Visiting Research Fellow at Kings College London. He was adviser to the Prime Minister from 1997 - 2001, and then to the Secretary of State for Education, before becoming an independent educational consultant. In 2008, he produced, for ASCL, an influential study of collaborative working between schools, Achieving more together: adding value through partnerships. He worked on two projects for the National college, on leadership and narrowing gaps in achievement, and assisted the startup phase of Teaching Schools. In 2014, CfBT published the results of research he carried out with NfER in Partnership working in small rural schools: the best of both worlds, and the NCTL published the results of a further project in Freedom to lead: a study of outstanding primary school leadership in England. He was also one of the authors of an evaluation of the early development of Teaching Schools.

In addition to the keynote speakers, the conference will include a range of workshops on aspects of leadership and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Full details of all workshops will be published once they have been finalised.
