Don't Disrespect. Help us tackle street harassment

7 February 2025

‘Don't Disrespect’, a partnership campaign to combat street harassment and violence towards women and girls, launches tomorrow at 2:00 PM. Can you support the campaign?

75% of girls and women across the country, aged 12 to 21, have experienced public sexual harassment on the street from men and boys.  Almost half of girls have experienced harassment in schools and colleges and 1 in 3 girls in the UK have received unwanted sexual attention such as being groped, stared at, cat-called and wolf-whistled whilst wearing their school uniform in public.

We have launched the ‘Don’t Disrespect’ campaign to highlight what girls and women face on a daily basis. The video shows the behaviour of men and boys - intimidation, shouting, suggestive comments, and advances – directed at a girl walking alone.

We want to empower boys and men to take a stand and end abuse. The video encourages boys to act, showing them the unacceptable behaviour and its impact. Boys have the power to change the story – to not commit or condone abuse, to be more respectful, to take harassment seriously and call it out when they see it. Mates can be active bystanders, disrupting the abuse and standing up for women and girls.

The reality is that girls shouldn’t have to put up with harassment or be the only ones fighting against it. It’s time to work together to put a stop to violence and harassment against women and girls.

You can support the campaign by utilising the Don't Disrespect Information Pack attached to:

  • Don't Disrespect! VAWG Campaign Information Pack
  • watch and share the video
  • download posters
  • share the social media
  • visit www.dontdisrespect.co.uk for links and resources to support education settings

The videos and socials will be live at 2pm tomorrow.

Please forward this to anyone you believe could support the campaign.

Young people have helped to create this campaign -  influencing script and scene suggestions for the film, messaging for print and the campaign name. Young people from local acting schools and members from the Kent Youth County Council took part in the video.

If you would like to support this campaign, and need materials to help, please contact marketing@kent.gov.ukto request items.
