Windows 10 support ends soon - are you ready?

What schools need to know and do ahead of October 2025.

Support for Windows 10 will end on Tuesday 14 October 2025, meaning Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates, technical assistance or security fixes. Schools must act now: either upgrade to Windows 11 or pay for extended Windows 10 support - a short-term fix that will buy you time, but won’t address long-term risks.

Simply put, doing nothing isn’t an option. After that date, devices still running Windows 10 will be unsupported and vulnerable.

Why this matters for schools

Around 50% of existing devices won’t meet Windows 11’s requirements. These will become unsupported, unprotected and increasingly difficult to manage. By planning ahead, schools can avoid rushed decisions, reduce costs and ensure continuity for staff and students.

It’s not just a tech upgrade

Microsoft’s move to Windows 11 isn’t about flashier design - it’s about keeping users and data safe. The enhanced security features require new hardware, and they do things Windows 10 wasn’t built to handle.

Windows 11 provides stronger device protection (TPM 2.0, Secure Boot), built-in threat prevention (Smart App Control, memory integrity), AI-powered Microsoft Defender for real-time protection and faster, safer logins with Windows Hello (face or fingerprint).

These updates help protect your school community from real-world threats, while improving day-to-day experience for staff and students.
