Virtual Volunteer as an Education Appeal Panel Member

Can you help us? Do you care about education and want to make a difference?

We are seeking to appoint volunteers for our education appeals panels who deal with school admissions. All appeals are conducted under a virtual platform which means you can help out in the comfort of your own home.

The amount of time that you wish to dedicate is entirely up to you, we would be looking for Members to at least be able to attend a whole days session, appeals themselves usually start from 9am (sometimes with a pre-meeting around 8:45am) and can last to around 4pm.

During our main round season (April to the end of July), when we hear multiple appeals, we have to have the same Panels so some can take place over a number of days.

Overview of the role

Our panel members fall into two categories:

  • Lay member - people without personal experience in the management or provision of education in any school (disregarding experience as a school governor or in another voluntary capacity).
  • Advisory member - people who have special knowledge and/or experience of the provision of education.

Requirements of the role

Online training and shadowing of appeals will be available to all Members wishing to volunteer their time.

If you are interested in this volunteer role and would like to find out more about future opportunities, contact Andrew Ballard, Principal Democratic Services Officer on 03000 41 58 09 or email Andrew.Ballard@kent.gov.uk.
