Updated lift and fixed hoist policy

KCC had recently updated its lift policy which focuses on the duties to manage risks associated with lifts (passenger and goods), hoists and lifting equipment.

The policy outlines:

  • What is classified as lifting equipment?
  • Role and responsibilities
  • Maintenance and inspection intervals and regime
    • KCC and school responsibilities.
  • Clarify action to take in the event of emergency
    • No staff member is to attempt to release entrapped occupants from a lift. This should only be done by trained and competent lift personnel.
  • Reporting incidents
    • Who to report and when. Appendix A in the link below.

It is important that each site that has lifting equipment, adheres to this policy and if there are any questions or concerns that these are raised to the KCC Facilities Management Team by emailing estates.enquiries@kent.gov.uk.
