University of York research into climate action and school leadership

An invitation to headteachers and/or MAT CEOs.

A team of researchers at the University of York (Lynda Dunlop, Sarah Clayton, Georgia Ramsay and Maria Turkenburg-van Diepen) are inviting you in your role as a headteacher and/or MAT CEO to take part in a research project they are carrying out to understand how school leaders engage with and commit to climate action.

This study is funded by Ashden, which leads the Let’s Go Zero campaign, but you don't have to have had prior engagement with the Let's Go Zero campaign or climate action to take part.

Purpose of the study

The study is designed to answer the questions:

  • What ways of perceiving and engaging with climate action exist amongst school leaders?
  • How do school leaders engage with climate communication (and specifically Let’s Go Zero)?

What would this mean for you?

If you consent to take part, you will participate in a semi-structured interview about your experience, as a school leader, of climate action in your school(s). The interview will take place online at a time convenient to you and will last approximately one hour. You will also be invited to a second meeting to shape a policy brief and other research outputs which will be shared with national organisations such as the DfE. Both the interview and meeting will be recorded but will not be shared beyond the research team.

To take part in this research project, participants must give their approval to participate by completing this short consent form. Once this has been completed, we will be in touch to arrange an interview at a time that is convenient for you.

If you have any queries about this research project at all then please do not hesitate to ask Lynda Dunlop (project lead) who can be contacted by emailing Lynda.Dunlop@york.ac.uk.

The team would really value the opportunity to speak with you and hear your valuable insights.
