Primary schools are requested to brief the judges of a new awards event about acts of kindness and initiatives that helped staff or pupils cope with anxiety and depression over the last academic year.

The Kent Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards is an annual event to showcase the people, organisations and initiatives that help us cope with life - and there are special awards for primary schools.

Nominations can be linked to a simple act of kindness that lifted the spirits, a school setting that has improved staff wellbeing, through to a targeted initiative to provide mental health and wellbeing support to pupils.

Simon Dolby, one of the judges of the Kent Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards, said: "Part of the purpose of the awards is to celebrate primary schools that have devised great ways to support wellbeing, but the biggest aim is to share those ideas, tips and strategies across the county. So even if you do not regard your approach to wellbeing as particularly innovative, rest assured your ideas would be welcomed by many schools - so help us to share what you are delivering by submitting a nomination."

The awards event is not exclusively dedicated to the education sector. Charities and voluntary groups can also earn recognition so school staff are asked to forward the awards details on to PTAs and good causes linked to the school.

The awards are staged by the mental health charity South Kent Mind, in collaboration with local Mind charities across Kent and Medway.

To submit a nomination visit the Kent Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards website and to receive news on the awards follow @KentMHWAwards on Twitter.
