Service Pupil Premium - deadline Thursday 1 October 2026

Schools can claim £360 (2026/27) Service Pupil Premium (SPP) for each service child in their school to fund the provision of pastoral care and support to help mitigate the impacts of service life, such as parental deployment or moving schools.

They can only claim this additional funding if they have been informed by parents of their service ahead of the school census on Thursday 1 October 2026.

Children are not singled out and only the school team will be aware which pupils are service children. Schools can combine the SPP funding to provide additional support for all its service pupils. This might include:

  • Reading materials or subscriptions for Service children.
  • Transition assistance - helping children adapt when moving between schools.
  • Club and social activities - running after-school clubs or parent and child social events.
  • Dedicated support staff - funding learning support assistants or pastoral coordinators.
