School food - have your say

The consultation window is currently open until Friday 12 June on the proposed New Government School Food Standards.

The timeline for the new school food standards in England is as follows:

  • Consultation period - the consultation for updating the School Food Standards is currently open, with views being sought on the proposed changes.
  • Final details - the final details of the new school food standards are expected to be published in September 2026.
  • Rollout - the rollout of the new standards is set to start in September 2027.

These changes aim to ensure that children have access to nutritious food during the school day, while also addressing concerns about sugar, processed foods and providing better transparency in school meals.
