Pay award and annual leave updates

Changes to the Kent Scheme pay and annual leave provisions.

Kent Scheme Pay - April 2019

Headteachers will no doubt be aware it has been KCCs commitment to move towards paying the equivalent of the Living Wage. Although still subject to County Council approval, it is proposed that we achieve the £9 per hour minimum pay rate from April 2019. Proposed details are contained in the County Council report that will be published in the next 24 hours on Kent.gov.uk.

If approved this will be applied to the Kent Scheme pay band KR2 with effect from 1 April 2019.

Other increases to the minimum and maximum amounts for Kent Scheme pay bands and the percentages to be applied to the Total Contribution Pay ratings have not yet been determined and will be notified to schools as soon as these are available.

Kent Scheme Terms and Conditions - Annual Leave provision change

As you may be aware, annual leave has been the subject of review as part of local pay bargaining with recognised Trade Unions. This has resulted in the proposed enhanced and rationalised provision that went to Personnel Committee last June. The intention is to offer a more modern annual leave provision which is simpler, fairer, more easily understood and equitable. Factors which have been considered include - the number of grade related levels, the length of service related factor, the desire to reduce differences and the impact on resources. The new arrangements benefit lower grades, specifically KR2-7 and also KR9. The Concessionary Day remains.
