National Education Union (NEU)

The NEU states that “it is in dispute with the Secretary of State for Education because of the Government’s failure to provide teachers with a sufficient pay award. More importantly, because it has refused to undertake that the pay award will be fully funded, with the result that there will be continued and increased pressure on teachers’ workloads,  working conditions and a continuing negative impact on education provision. The NEU remains willing to reach a negotiated settlement to the current dispute and, in the event of a resolution to the dispute, the Union will not proceed with the ballot or any resulting industrial action.”

The ballot will open on Saturday 3 October 2026.

In accordance with the legislative requirements the NEU has determined that the ballot  will be a combination of an electronic and hybrid vote, carried out by the independent scrutineer.
