M-PACT

M-PACT (Moving Parents and Children Together) is a program being rolled out across Kent from October 2021 for families with (or who have had) substance and/or alcohol difficulties.

The main referral criteria are that there must be a child (or children) between the ages of 8 to 17 years old within the household. The groups will involve between five and eight families at one time and run from 5pm to 8pm on a weekday evening. Food and travel expenses will be provided, and referrals will be taken from across social care and services within Kent.

The power of this approach is the fact that young people, children, and adults are in the program together and are given a safe space to explore some of the difficulties. We can also be creative with who attends, such a child who is not placed with their birth parents but have been affected by substance or alcohol misuse could attend with another adult carer. Any substance or alcohol use must also be stable for adults to attend the groups.
