Leading Professional Development for Teaching Assistants
14 January 2026
A new train-the-trainer programme for Kent school and trust leaders, from Teach Kent and Sussex in partnership with Ambition Institute.
We are pleased to offer school leaders across Kent and Sussex the opportunity to join the first pilot cohort of Ambition’s Leading Professional Development for Teaching Assistants.
This train-the-trainer programme equips school leaders to deliver high-quality professional development for teaching assistants and learning support assistants in their own schools.
“I’m excited that we now have the opportunity to provide high quality, evidence-informed professional development for our TAs which aligns with the professional learning of our teachers. The feedback from our TAs has been excellent so far: they feel much more confident in understanding, supporting and using appropriate classroom strategies, and feel empowered about the significance of the impact they can have and their ability to affect students’ learning in a positive way. The TAs have appreciated the investment in their professional development and are keen to follow up suggested resources, share strategies and try new methods in the classroom. Even veteran TAs found the evidence-informed sessions helpful and transformational.” – Hannah Brown, Learning Support Manager.
Designed by experts at Ambition Institute, this evidence-informed training specifically targets the persistent challenges faced by teaching assistants. You’ll receive adaptable resource packs for six ready-to-deliver sessions exploring the Science of Learning and effective strategies for tackling common classroom challenges. These resources and sessions are yours to keep, and use again in the future.
At this stage we need to assess viability and so are asking schools, trusts or federations to express an interest in taking part by Wednesday 28 January.
