Does your school have a roof escape ladder like this?
A recent incident occurred, whereby a pupil managed to access the roof using a roof escape ladder. Awareness of this is being shared across KCC School and Corporate Landlord sites as a preventative measure in case other sites have a similar model.
The ladder can only be lowered from the roof. The pupil managed to pull themselves up through the cage until they could then climb up the ladder rungs. The base of the ladder sits circa 8ft from the floor.
Work is underway with the original installer to determine if an additional barrier can be fitted to the bottom of the kit.
The ladder has since been independently assessed by health and safety experts and it passes all the necessary regulations, in addition to all the usual statutory compliance tasks.
