Free bus travel for FSM families this summer

Thanks to the Kent Bus Enhancement Partnership and Kent’s Passenger Transport Team, families whose children receive benefits related free school meals are being given an electronic bus pass enabling free bus travel this summer.

Bus About Kent - Family Bus Pass

Using a grant from the UK Government, the bus pass will enable a family of four to travel free on buses in Kent between Sunday 23 July and Thursday 31 August 2023 (inclusive).

Schools have been asked to issue these using the e-vouchers platform we commission. Families will be used to receiving their supermarket, Holiday Activity and Food Programme, and energy vouchers through this platform.

To travel all the family needs to do is show the driver the electronic voucher. As these are family bus passes, there must be at least one adult and one child travelling together (no more than two adults). Buses cannot be boarded after 8pm.

Full details can be found at the KCC website

Many of you will remember that during the Reconnect: Kent Children and Young People programme we were able to offer free travel to young people aged 11+ during the summers of 2021 and 2022. Unfortunately we cannot do so this summer, following the planned ending of that programme.

We have seen fake Young Person’s Bus Passes for this summer in circulation on social media and being presented to drivers. These will not be accepted. We do not want any young person to get stranded or distressed as a consequence of not being able to board a bus with such a fake pass, so please, if you do see or hear young people sharing or talking about these, let them know they are not valid passes.
