Free INSET for your school on compassionate values and youth social action

You are invited to sign up for a free National Lottery-funded teacher education INSET session, to be delivered in your school.

Your staff will have the opportunity to explore the values we model and encourage in the classroom, and how to help young people discover their shared values and act positively on the social and environmental issues they care about. You will hear about some of the youth-led projects carried out in Kent schools through the Transform Our World programme and discover Global Action Plan’s research-backed approach to closing the values-perception gap.

The session will involve:

  • The INSET session will be delivered in person in your school setting by Global Action Plan. Global Action Plan is an environmental charity working towards a green and thriving planet, where everyone can enjoy happy and healthy lives within the Earth's limits.
  • The session will be one to two hours long (adapted to meet your school’s needs and availability).
  • The focus will be on nurturing compassionate values, helping teachers explore where this is already happening in their practice and new opportunities they could introduce. We will explore those values we, as educators, wish to activate and reinforce in young people.
  • We will highlight inspiring examples of projects young people have carried out in schools in Kent, to seed ideas for your own school.
  • This INSET could complement other action your school is taking (such as working on a Climate Action Plan, Sustainability Strategy, National Education Nature Park or the KCC greener schools programme) by engaging and motivating staff (and subsequently their pupils) to be fully engaged.
  • As a follow-up, we ask participants to provide feedback on a project they have carried out with their class which has either been inspired by the training or has embedded learning from the session.
  • There is no charge to participating schools as this project is fully funded (by the National Lottery). Each school will also be able to access a small fund to facilitate young people’s social action projects, creating positive environmental change within their school and community and turning their ideas into reality.

Please note that the sessions are offered on a first come, first served basis. Email Liz.Hayes@globalactionplan.org.uk as soon as possible if you’d like to take up this offer, so that we can arrange a call to discuss next steps for your school.
