Egress Phishing alert

The Counter Fraud Team have been made aware of phishing emails sent via the secure messaging service Egress.

The email addresses of six schools across more than one local authority in the UK have been hacked, this has enabled fraudsters to send phishing emails to five other schools. The fact that the messages appear to have been sent by a secure system has allowed the fraudsters to target several schools. Egress have confirmed the fraudsters have used an old-style Egress switch logo in their message.

Egress are aware of similar phishing attacks and advise users to “hover your cursor over the link to see the site you are being taken to. If it is a legitimate Egress email the link will take you to https://reader.egress.com/ with a unique code on the end”.
