Design a trophy for the Kent Wellbeing Awards

Students are invited to submit a design which will be turned into a unique trophy for a new awards event being staged in Kent.

Students are asked to create an illustration which can be turned into the design for the trophy to be presented to winners of the Kent Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards.

This is open to both primary and secondary schools in Kent and can be staged as a class activity prior to the end of term, used as a homework activity, or even as a summer holiday challenge.

The winning illustration or design will be transformed into a trophy by Cactus Graphics, based in Dover (previously known as Buckland Press). They have clever equipment that can cut unique designs out of sheets of bamboo to provide eco friendly trophies to support events.

Designs can be in black and white or colour and should be created on A4 paper with the child's first name, last name, age, class, school name and town or village school is located in, added clearly at the base of the illustration. Schools have the choice of photographing and emailing over their top 10 entries or posting all entries to the judges. If this is being set as a summer holiday challenge then parents should ensure the same contact information is clear on the base of the illustration when emailing it through prior to the deadline of noon on 1 August.

Simon Dolby from the awards team said: "Wellbeing has never been in the spotlight more over the last year - but what does wellbeing mean to you, your family, your pupils and your school? It will be fascinating to see the illustrations and designs sent in by young people in Kent, and great kudos for the winning designer to have their work transformed into the trophies presented on the night of the awards event this autumn."

As an extra incentive, Mr Dolby said the school of the winning student designer will receive a copy of the trophy. This could be used as as a House Cup or perhaps to reward the pupil or class that has taken on a wellbeing project in the school each year.

Entries should be emailed to contact@southkentmind.org.uk or posted to: South Kent Mind, 3 Mill Bay, Folkestone CT20 1JS - to arrive no later than noon on 1 August.

School staff can nominate people, initiatives or their school to receive recognition at the wellbeing awards. Visit the Kent MHW Awards website to find out more or to submit a nomination.
