An awards initiative which celebrates innovative reading schemes in schools is now open for nominations

With various categories offered including Best Use of Art and Poetry, Best Promotion of Reading for Pleasure, and Most Inspiring Book Corner, the Kent Literacy Awards commend schools and staff who ignite children’s imaginations and further their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in the process.

Claire Turner of School News Group, a key partner of the awards, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting such a worthwhile initiative. The awards are all about showcasing best practice of literacy progression and excellence throughout Kent’s schools. We hope people take the time to nominate.”

She added: “Literacy is the foundation of our publication, and indeed the foundation of learning in primary and secondary schooling.”

School News provides the county’s parents with positive information about the education curriculum in Kent’s schools and will now be informing readers about the awards.

Organised by the KM Charity Team, the awards accept nominations from support staff and fellow teachers throughout the county.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the charity, said: “Those providing children with good literacy skills are preparing them for a brighter, more prosperous future. Submit a nomination and let us know what your school is doing to excite and enthuse the next generation.”

The Kent Literacy Awards are hosted at Sittingbourne’s Hempstead House in June.

To submit one or more nominations before the April 29 deadline, visit the Kent Literacy Awards website.
