Create happy and healthy walk-to-school winners

Still time to sign up for the award-winning Active Wow and excite pupils about adopting healthier habits and arriving at school alert and ready to learn.

Schools can join the fun and prize-packed programme Active Wow (Walk Once a Week) for the 2021/22 academic year.

Dozens of prizes worth hundreds of pounds have been given away this year, throughout lockdown, to schools across the county. Rewards have included book bundles, gardening equipment, an exciting school visit by Kickstart Sports, and personalised video messages from none other than CBeebies’ Mister Maker - along with one-of-a-kind artwork created by the man himself!

A survey carried out in the spring of 2019 showed that 100% of pupils walked to school more often as a result of Active Wow, and 62.5% of respondents reported a reduction in traffic congestion around the school gates.

Pupils typically show improvement in their concentration and activity levels, as well as awareness of issues involving road-safety, school community, and the environment.

Active Wow encourages families to spend quality time together walking (including ‘park and stride’), cycling or scootering to school. Classes compete each week to be awarded the Green Class of the Week Trophy and are celebrated in assembly. Added to this, district-wide challenges with fantastic prizes up for grabs successfully maintain excitement throughout the academic year.

Find out more, or join Active Wow, at the KM Charity Team website or contact Kathy Beel at kbeel@thekmgroup.co.uk. Schools are encouraged to sign up and be ready to launch in time for October’s Walk to School Month!
