Change4Life Newsletter

11 November 2016

Is your school ready for a healthy year?

Change4Life have got lots of new activities to help you create a healthy, active school.

The new Our Healthy Year resources and whole-school ideas aim to help your Reception and Year 6 pupils build healthy habits during the school years in which they are weighed and measured as part of the National Child Measurement Programme.

There are lots of healthy, curriculum-linked activities to choose from. Read on to discover how you can teach about healthy eating and key literacy and maths skills at the same time.

In January, Change4Life will also be launching a new set of healthy-eating resources for teachers, pupils and parents. Read on for the latest information on what will be included and make sure your school receives its pack.

Healthy stories and phonics for Reception

Turn your story time into a lesson on healthy eating using popular children’s stories, including Jack and the Beanstalk and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Download the Our Healthy Year: ideas for Reception teachers to get started. You can also use healthy foods to support children’s phonics learning with these fun Phonics activity cards

Feed a family Maths challenge for Year 6

Boost your pupils' numeracy skills with this fun Feed a family challenge. Get your pupils to create a healthy meal plan to feed a whole family using the healthiest food possible for the least amount of money.

New resources coming in January

Change4Life is launching a new pack of resources to help teach pupils aged 5 to 11 about healthy eating. It will include lesson plans based around numeracy and literacy, video-based activities, and resources for pupils to run their own healthy eating campaign in school. All Primary schools will receive a printed pack including stickers, posters and parent packs with the School Fruit and Veg Scheme delivery in January.
