Alteration to the School Academic Year 2021-22 - Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration

Changes to the term dates for the school academic year 2021-22.

In acknowledgement of the additional Bank Holiday for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the DfE have laid regulations to reduce the minimum number of sessions that schools are required to meet in the academic year 2021-22, in order to enable everyone to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen on 3 June 2022.

Subsequently, following a consultation, the Cabinet Member for Education has taken the decision to end the Summer term 2022 a day early so that term finishes on Thursday 21 July 2022 instead of Friday 22 July 2022. This decision relates specifically to Kent community, voluntary-controlled, community special or maintained nursery schools and is now legal and can be implemented. If the schools has already allocated the 22 July as an inset day, the governing body at the school will need to rearrange the inset day to an alternative day. Please see the adjusted term dates

KCC acknowledges that academies, free schools, voluntary aided and foundation schools are responsible for setting their own term dates, however we are alerting all schools to this alteration as they may wish to follow this decision to provide consistency across the County.
