Additional Capital Funding for Schools 2018/19 update

In the Autumn Budget, the Chancellor announced an extra £400 million capital funding for schools in 2018-19.

The DfE have published a calculator to help schools and other eligible institutions estimate the allocation they can expect to receive and plan how to spend the money. The calculator and further information about the funding can be can be found on the Government website

Schools and other eligible institutions can spend this additional funding on capital projects to meet their own priorities. This may include, for example, improvements to buildings, equipment and other facilities, such as ICT.

Please note:

  • Grant funding will be paid automatically to schools, there is no need to apply for funding
  • Although the exact date that the capital funding will be received is currently unknown, it is expected that funding will be received before 31 March 2019 and that the mechanism for passporting the funding will be the same as that for Devolved Formula Capital
  • Use of the ready reckoner is the best indication of a schools grant allocation
  • Schools will be allowed to spend funding over the following two financial years.
