A chance to volunteer and help some young asylum seekers

5 July 2023

Kent Kindness is a small charity based in West Kent.

We provide lessons in basic English, language and customs, to UASC, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, in the two Reception Centres run by the KCC. These are all boys who are either 16 or 17 years of age, and they are fun, polite, keen to learn but not good at getting up in the morning. In fact they are just like teenage boys born here in the UK.

These lessons take place from 10am until 12noon from Monday to Thursday each week. Some of our volunteers were or are teachers but many have never taught before. We have a full range of resources available to all our volunteers but we need more volunteers. Most of the Kent Kindness volunteers teach one morning a week and others teach fortnightly. Most are happy to lead the lessons but we always welcome volunteers who will assist in the lessons, rather like a teaching assistant.

If you would like to know more please visit the Kent Kindness website or send an email to contact@kentkindness.org.uk.
