A reminder on the updated Asbestos Policy

This is reminder of KCC's asbestos management policy and procedures following Asbestos Policy update May 2015.

Following the ebulletin notifying of the updated Asbestos Policy (6th May 2015),  this is a reminder of KCC's asbestos management policy and procedures.

Following a recent incident where a school did not refer to the management survey, nor did they obtain a refurbishment survey to check the asbestos content before works commenced. This resulted in damage to asbestos containing materials and intervention from the Health and Safety Executive.

Please ensure The Docubox contents should be up to date and available at the main reception. This should include: Any current survey identifying Asbestos locations.

Do not hold previous Management, Refurbishment or Demolition surveys in the Docubox, but store them for 40 years, somewhere safe and accessible. Please only continue to hold Refurbishment surveys in the Docubox if they show any asbestos still on site following the main works.

Ensure that the log sheet is signed by all incoming contractors and is stored at the BACK of the Management survey.

Communicate the location of asbestos to employees working within those areas and the communication protocols if the condition has deteriorated.

Use the management survey as a guide and a log book of your to regularly inspections of the condition of asbestos within your premises.

Ensure headteachers and/or senior managers attend the Statutory Compliance Training provided by KCC. The current KCC Policy and Code of Practice for the Management of Asbestos in Buildings applies to all KCC premises and those in control of and/or with responsibility for the operations within. Please see details in the new policy.
