The best themes, schemes and strategies developed by schools to improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills will be highlighted at the 2015 Kent Literacy Awards.
The best themes, schemes and strategies developed by schools to improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills will be highlighted at the 2015 Kent Literacy Awards.
Nominations are now being accepted for this new awards event following its successful pilot last academic year.
Kent County Council is playing a leading role in the event, which is organised by the KM Group's charity department and supported by Cabinet members Roger Gough and Mike Hill.
"These awards are all about the initiatives schools use to engage individuals or groups of pupils," said Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team. "How does your school use cross-curricular work to help, how do you use art and drama, what are the ways you bring parents into the battle to improve literacy levels, and how you develop language skills for children with English as a second language?"
The Kent Literacy Awards want to celebrate and share the fantastic work going on in schools and academies across the county.
The aim is that the winning initiatives will be published in a Kent Literacy Awards document that will be circulated to every school and academy in Kent, Medway and Bexley to help spread best practice.
Mr Dolby added: "Please help us make the 2015 awards a great success by submitting a nomination this year!"
The winning schemes and strategies will be unveiled at a prestigious awards ceremony at Hempstead Country House Hotel in June 2015. The deadline for submissions is noon on April 28.
