Schools Requested to Assist with School Crossing Patrol Safeguarding Training

The KCC Safer Mobility Team request the assistance from all schools with an SCP to assist in ensuring they have received important Safeguarding Training.

Following an update of the Safer Mobility Team's Safeguarding Policy and Practice, we are undertaking a review of safeguarding training for the School Crossing Patrols (SCPs). The Casualty Reduction Team (in which the SCP service sits) is committed to meeting its legal and moral duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people who come into contact with it's services, activities and staff; safeguarding training is an essential part of this duty.

As schools are the delegated line managers for SCP's, support is required in ensuring all School Crossing Patrols are trained by the end of the 17/18 school year. It is impracticable to request SCP's attend centrally facilitated sessions, or provided with 1-2-1 tuition.

An email will be distributed shortly from the Safer Mobility Team requesting information from schools where safeguarding training has already been provided and how the training can be provided for others within the timeframe required. Refresher training will be required at intervals not exceeding three years to comply with the policy.

Patrols will be paid by KCC for the time spent on training and details for how to claim will be provided in the email. Heads of Schools with SCP's are requested to ask usual SCP points of contact to look out for the email and respond before 24 November 2017.

School's are thanked for their assistance if training has already been provided and for future support and engagement with the SCP Safeguarding Project.
