Outdoor Learning in Canterbury

'Wild About Westgate' - Innovative and creative outdoor activity programmes for nurseries, schools and youth groups.

Set in the beautiful Westgate Gardens, Canterbury City Council’s ‘Wild about Westgate’ programme enriches the National Curriculum by bringing learning outcomes to life through hands on practical activities. The ‘Wildlife Olympics’ programme integrates key stage 1 and 2 science and physical education objectives. Learn about life processes, adaptations and feeding relationships through nature themed green games. Children can take part in the mini-beast marathon and food chain challenge which combine team fun, exercise and learning.

Situated next to the Westgate Towers, the Westgate Parks are rich in heritage and wildlife. Children can discover the hidden life of the River Great Stour by dipping for creatures and identifying them through a game of bingo. Key Stage 2 groups will learn how some of the clever creatures are adapted to live in their watery world.

Other programmes include:

  • The Great Stour River study
  • Mini-beast safari
  • Iron Age Homes and Roman hotels
  • Geocaching and Forest School.

Need an indoor space - If you booking one of our sessions you can hire the Guildhall (a converted church) situated in the beautiful Westgate Gardens.

Travel sustainably - the Westgate Parks are situated near to Canterbury Bus Station and both East/West train stations helping to save on the cost of coaches.
