Teachers Pay Grant (TPG) September 2019 to March 2020

An update on the Teachers Pay Grant (TPG) for September 2019 to March 2020.

Our 11 October e-bulletin provided an update on the 2019 School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and included details of the grant funding rates.

The content of this communication is to provide further details of the grant calculation and payment profile.

Mainstream Schools

The data used to calculate each school’s allocation is taken from the following sources:

  • 2 to 4 year olds - headcount from the January 2019 census
  • 5 to 16 year olds - headcount from the October 2018 census
  • 16 to 19 year olds - number of pupils used to calculate the 2019-2020 academic year funding allocations.

Special Schools and Pupil Referral Units (PRU)

The data used to determine allocations for Special Schools and PRUs is taken from the place numbers for 2019 to 2020 recorded on the Section 251 return.

Full payment of the grant for the period September to March will be included in your schools advance for November and the ESFA has directed that this will be recorded against CFR code I01.

Please note, the TPG rates for the period April 2020 to March 2021 and beyond have not yet been published, however an estimate has been calculated based on the September 2019 to March 2020 rate to assist with future planning. On receipt of this information from the ESFA a further update will be provided.
