Free ‘KM Year of Reading’ pack for schools

A leading children’s educational charity has teamed up with the KM Group to make 2019 a year of reading.

KM Group has launched 2019 as its Year of Reading to champion literacy in schools and across the community.

The multimedia company has joined forces with the KM Charity Team to give more focus to the charity’s events and activities which have literacy at their heart - including the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards and Kent Literacy Awards.

Its home reading initiative for schools, Buster’s Book Club, will also take the spotlight as the thousands of families involved try to become reading millionaires. Last academic year, participants collectively achieved almost 8.5 million minutes of reading at home.

A free KM Year of Reading campaign pack is available for schools, clubs and businesses to encourage the entire Kent community to foster a love of reading. The pack outlines the campaign’s highlights and how to get involved in celebrating literacy and making a dramatic impact on reading and engagement.

Geraldine Allinson, chair of the KM Group, said: “Even in these modern days of digital technology reading skills are just as important to people’s lives as they have always been. Throughout 2019 KM will be supporting and promoting a range of different initiatives to help children and adults in Kent to develop their reading abilities.”

She added: “We think it is really important to help improve the future prospects of people in our county and developing reading skills is an essential way to do this.

Simon Dolby, CEO of the KM Charity Team, said: “KM’s Year of Reading will shine a spotlight on the great schemes used to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in Kent schools - as well as challenging children to hit an all-time high figure for the number of reading minutes achieved through our simple-to-deliver scheme, Buster’s Book Club.”
