Don’t miss the boat for creative writing contest

The deadline is fast approaching for a competition offering one lucky pupil the top job at The Historic Dockyard Chatham for a day.

The winning pupil will get to explore 400 years of history and adventure as well as instruct staff across the maritime heritage site on their duties for the day. The 80-acre site includes battleships and a submarine, which visitors can climb aboard to explore, as well as RNLI lifeboats, the current V&A exhibition ‘A Pirate’s Life for Me’ and much more.

The Be the Boss writing contest is run by the KM Charity Team, which provides walk to school and literacy services for schools. To enter, Primary school pupils simply write about which superhero they would most like to walk to school with and why. The author of the most imaginative piece of writing will scoop the ‘money can’t buy’ prize.

But hurry, the deadline is noon on Monday 1 July 2019.

Entries should be handwritten on the To infinity and beyond activity sheet that can be downloaded for free at the KM Charity Team’s website

Be the Boss writing competitions run throughout the year with a different topic and prize up for grabs each term. Previous winners have headed up Ashford International Hotel, managed machinery at Diggerland, cared for animals at Wildwood, ruled Leeds Castle, directed Turner Contemporary art gallery, overseen Whitefriars shopping centre and run popular radio station KMFM.

The competition’s coordinator, Deb Goodger from the KM Charity Team, said: “The competition raises awareness of green travel and encourages young people to let their imaginations go wild and really enjoy expressing themselves. Every year we are surprised and delighted by the standard of entries - their creativity, use of language and handwriting skills.”
