Supporting Children to use the 5 point Scale to regulate their behaviour

Workshop objectives

This half-day workshop will focus on developing an understanding of why some children struggle to recognise, regulate and understand their own emotions and behaviours. Participants will be introduced to The 5 Point Scale and consider how it can be used at home, at school and in the community.

Workshop content

  • Reasons why children can struggle to recognise, regulate and understand their emotions
  • How and why scaling questions can be useful
  • Considering the range of issues that can be addressed using a 5 point scale
  • How a 5 point scale works in practice and how it can help children to learn to identify, regulate and de-escalate their own behaviours and emotions in challenging situations

Target Audience

This workshop is suitable for anyone working with children who need assistance with self-regulation, especially in Key Stages 2 - 4.
