Whole day training
This one day course is for senior school leadership staff who have responsibility for safeguarding children in their school/workplace.
By the end of the course the members will know their responsibilities as the Designated Safeguarding Lead:
- training and Induction of staff
- raising awareness of child protection/safeguarding issues within school/workplace
- multi-agency systems and processes for working together with other agencies including Children's Social Services, health, police, probation.
The course will cover:
- creating a safe culture for staff and children
- training and induction of staff
- national legislation
- national and local policy and procedures (including Prevent, FGM and CSE)
- assessing need and risk and levels of intervention
- contributing to local multi-agency processes and systems.

Course requirements
All applicants should be members of the school's senior management team.
All applicants should have completed a basic awareness course prior to attending. This training may have been provided in the past by the Children's Safeguards service but more recently by the school's Designated Child Protection Co-ordinator. Applicants will be expected to have prior knowledge of:
- Signs and symptoms of child abuse
- Categories and definitions of child abuse under Working Together to Safeguard Children;
- The Department of Health Framework for Assessment ("the triangle");
- Recording and reporting systems in their workplace or school.
There will be a charge for this course.
