Students can win cash prize at 'dragon's den' STEM event

Design technology, coding and science students can earn experience prizes and cash by telling panel about their project.

Students involved with science clubs, design technology projects or coding apps can win sciencebased experience prizes and cash by telling a panel of experts about their innovations, inventions or investigations.

The annual KM Bright Spark Awards gives students the chance to shine in an engaging 'dragon's den' format. Projects might be well underway already or this article could prompt a piece of work to be started which you expect to be sufficiently complete by Friday, 7 July to allow your students to impress the judging panel. It is not necessary to have completed the project, but clearly this would be an advantage for many projects.

All entries accepted to present their project at the live event will have a video report filmed within school showing the work underway and include one or two interviews with students involved. This is screened on a giant video wall at the KM Bright Sparks event and is also available for the school to add to its own website.

At the event your student group will have two minutes to expand on the detail outlined in their video before the 'dragons' quiz the students to tease out more detail, so this is very much about speaking and listening skills as it is about knowledge of their project.

The aim of the event is to encourage students to consider STEM subjects as well as careers related to technology. KM Bright Spark Awards actively encourages entries from girl groups and schools from deprived catchment areas.
