Do your literacy themes and strategies stand out from the IT Crowd?

There is still time to complete a nomination for the Kent Literacy Awards to celebrate and share the fantastic work going on in your school.

Schools helping pupils to communicate with confidence through clever use of technology are being urged to nominate in the Kent Literacy Awards.

The prestigious event will showcase successful projects used by schools for award categories including Best Use of IT to enhance reading or writing.

There are just two weeks left to put forward the best themes, schemes and strategies for developing skills in writing and language. Organisers of the awards are calling for schools to nominate the initiatives making the biggest impact in the classroom by the deadline of May 1.

Simon Dolby of the KM Charity Team, which is running the event, said: “The Kent Literacy Awards shine a spotlight on the schemes that are resonating with pupils and getting them excited about communication whether it’s reading, writing, listening or speaking.”

He added: “Winning an award is a real pat on the back to the school as well as a wonderful opportunity to share best practice. The best schemes will be collated, published and circulated to every school in Kent, Medway and Bexley.”

The winners will be revealed at an awards celebration held at Hempstead House Hotel, Sittingbourne in June. Phil Gallagher, who plays the leading role in CBeebies’ Mister Maker, will be a special guest at the event.

This year, pupils can submit book reviews for the chance to meet Phil at the Kent Literacy Awards. Literacy leaders sending in a quantity of book reviews written by children in their school will be entered into a draw to win a mini spa day at The Reef. The reviews can be entered online or hand written by the children and sent in the post. Visit the KM Charity Team book review website to find out more.

Nominations for the Kent Literacy Awards can be submitted by any member of school staff, pupils or parents at the Kent Literacy Awards website by May 1. For multiple initiatives please submit each as a separate nomination.
