Accelerating the progress of pupils with English as an additional language

New programme of study for EAL Coordinators.

The number of children and young people with English as an additional language continues to rise. Over the last 5 years the EAL pupil population has increased from 7.3% to 10.7% in Kent schools.

EAL coordinators play a crucial part in raising the achievement of EAL children and young people.

The Inclusion Support Service Kent have developed this suite of 4 training sessions to equip EAL coordinators to meet the needs of EAL learners, from the induction of new arrivals to accelerating the progress of more advanced bilingual learners. These training sessions explore the development of the coordinator as a trainer, manager and model EAL teacher. Assessment, monitoring and tracking are explored in detail.
